Montana
Montana breastfeeding laws and lactation protections, including workplace accommodations and public breastfeeding rights.
Mothers in Montana have the right to breastfeed in any public location, as long as they are legally allowed to be there. Montana has limited workplace lactation accommodation legislation, but the federal FLSA’s PUMP Act provides workplace lactation accommodation protections for all breastfeeding employees.
We’ve awarded Montana one drop on our scale.

MT Breastfeeding Laws: In Public
Mothers in Montana have the right to breastfeed in public. Read the law: Mont. Code Ann. § 50-19-501 (1999)
MT Breastfeeding Laws: At Work
All breastfeeding employees are protected by the federal FLSA’s PUMP for Nursing Mothers Act that mandates reasonable break time and a private space (other than a bathroom) to pump at work for one year. In addition, Montana law requires all state and county governments, municipalities, school districts and the university system to give all breastfeeding employees break time to pump and a private space (not a bathroom) to pump at work. Read the laws: Mont. Code Ann. § 39-2-216 et seq and Mont. Code Ann. §39-2-215
